The “Business” Saga of a Leader
(by Avni Sri, Club Manager, E-Cell VNIT)
There goes a great saying in this business world:
Remember the difference between a boss and a leader; a boss says "Go!", a leader says "Let's go!".
So, leadership is action, not mere position.
The essence is that a leader assumes responsibility and believes in holding that responsibility collectively.
But hold on....
He says, "I was beaten", he does not say "My men were beaten”.(He cannot let this happen, folks!)
Success to be shared with everyone lest you should be a limelight snatcher and pains to be vested with you alone or you are an ace of blame-game, a more worthy bad workman complaining his tools -- yes, welcome to the real life of a leader.
Your executive ability scaled down to your ability to decide quickly and get somebody else to do the work.
Your efforts to put ideas suggested by others together and work out a masterpiece as adding substance to "great artists steal and get done with the heist !".
Needless to say, business is an actual concoction of war and sports. While everything is fair in war, but you have to abide by the rules in sports. Smiling faces are not always convivial and illusions are myriad enough to put you at stake.
In spite of all this, what actually keeps a business leader marching success in this hyped glamorous galaxy then?
Leaders are visionaries with a poorly developed sense of fear and no concept of the odds against them. They have the dogged determination jeweled with patience and perseverance, to go against the tides to accomplish their tasks as and when the situation demands. They know it quite well that gains are nothing eternal and a chequered life is inevitable for anyone down the line of business.
They know how to motivate people to toil and prosper through the ebb and flow of the times.
They are not pretty concerned about what people, especially those fickle-minded fair-weather friends, say behind their backs but take criticism (from genuine sources) sportingly for edification.
They even see opportunities to learn great lessons from the mistakes of others.
They know their work is karma, pride regret; pride comes before a fall.
They check their compass twice before using it . And even when their compass fails, they know how to move ahead---credits to the greatest pal of all times---their experience. They are not subdued by failures cause they know that failures are stepping stones to success. They hope for the best but are prepared for the worst. And they have deep faith in their endeavors which never subdue them before the sign of the times.
Their optimistic approach towards the life as whole makes them a great leader....who becomes an exemplar for all business acumen.
There goes the leader of all business times.
There art thou!
It is great, thanks for the input between boss and leader.
